Leon County election official addresses USPS concerns, unveils new technology to track mail-in ballots

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Leon County voters can start looking for mail-in ballots on their doorsteps later this week.

Leon County Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley said about 34,000 vote-by-mail ballots will be sent out this Thursday, July 11, for next month’s primaries. Overseas military and civilian mail-in ballots were sent out last week, he said.

But with so many mail ballots expected for this Florida primary election in August, some Capital County residents have questioned if they can trust their ballot to be delivered seamlessly.

Last month, WCTV reported on a recent audit that confirmed problems with mail operations in the capital city, including extensive issues with delays. The supervisor of elections acknowledged that the issues are worrying, but said he is still confident in the USPS. His office is also taking steps, including implementing a new mail-tracking program, to ensure every mail-in ballot makes it to the election office, he said.

For those worried about their mail-in ballot, Earley said voters in Leon County will be able to track their ballots more closely than ever this election season.

That's why I hand deliver my mail in ballot in person. I get the ballot in the mail. I go over the candidates at my leisure and vote on the mail in ballot. I then go down to the Sup of Elections office (where the ballots are counted) and hand it to a election official. Within a day or so I get an email saying my ballot was counted and registered.. Easy peasy.
I'm not far from the Sup of Elections office so it's no big deal. I also avoid all the lines and bullshit at the election site..
I have been doing this for years in two different Florida county's and it always worked for me. ymmv
