Steube files bill to ban federally funded gender affirmation surgery for detainees
During a presidential debate full of viral moments, former President Donald Trump accused Vice President Kamala Harris of wanting “to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison.”
The next day, one of his staunchest supporters in Congress, Sarasota’s Rep. Greg Steube, filed a bill called the “Stopping Transgender Operation Payments and Wacky Expenses for Illegal Residents and Detainees Act” (STOP WEIRD Act).
Trump seemingly referred to a 2019 questionnaire Harris filled out for the American Civil Liberties Union during the Democratic presidential primary. Then-Sen. Harris wrote that gender-affirming care is a medical necessity; and that as the Attorney General of California, she pushed the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to provide surgical gender affirmation care to inmates.
“I support policies ensuring that federal prisoners and detainees are able to obtain medically necessary care for gender transition, including surgical care, while incarcerated or detained,” Harris wrote, according to a copy of the questionnaire provided by Steube’s office.

Steube and the rest of his Republican ilk really hate being labeled as "weird", don't they? Steube isn't self-aware enough to recognize this bill only emphasizes their weirdness.
