Osceola Commission Districts 1, 3 races focus on controlling growth
Osceola County residents Nov. 5 will decide the fate of two County Commission seats both featuring newcomers trying to oust longtime Democratic incumbents in races focused on controlling growth and traffic.
Five contenders between the two races are fighting for the opportunity to help solve traffic headaches in a county thats seen its population balloon to over 388,000, according to the latest census data. Thats a figure thats more than doubled in the last decade.
Growth is only expected to continue as commissioners struggle to find balance between new development, traffic congestion and the increasing number of homeless people. Commissioners make $104,808 annually.
In District 1, Commissioner Peggy Choudhry, whos held the seat since 2016, faces a challenge from Republican Disvany Martinez, an entrepreneur with a landscaping and consulting company.
