WGUN 1010: Now with a hybrid progressive talk and Christian format but very weak nighttime signal

The new WGUN 1010 schedule is here: http://atlantas1010.com/pages/12248918.php

I noticed that the conservative Jesse Lee Peterson's show is on 9AM before the progressive lineup 10am-midnight (including Warren Ballentine, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, and Hotlanta's very own Mike Malloy). In addition, Saturday's listed shows include a sports and a home improvement program, and Sundays entirely of Christian programming. Otherwise, Atlanta progressives, enjoy this sensible alternative to WSB(S)! (I learned from Mike Malloy's show today that WSB stands for "Welcome South, Brother".)

Sadly, this station powers down to 78 W two hours after sunset after being 50 kW during the daytime then 45 kW during "critical hours" (two hours after sunset or before sunrise). Thus, it'll be tough to hear Mike Malloy over the air if you're living in downtown Atlanta.

Why oh why do some stations in Atlanta power down to fewer than 100 W at night and thus become INVISIBLE locally? I looked up all 1010 kHz stations on Wolfram alpha and found the nearest 1010's to WGUN to be WMOX (Meridian, Miss., 10 kW day/1 kW night), WORM (Savannah, Tenn., less than 250 W) and WQYK (Tampa, Fla., 50 kW day/5 kW night). If it is theoretically to protect the signal of New York City's WINS, (NYC is about 800 miles north of Atlanta) then I fail to see a compelling reason why the threshold has to be set so low below 100 W. (At nighttime I have picked up KOMO 1000 from Seattle, about 700 miles north from where I am near San Francisco. And my area has a 1010 station that is 10 kW day, 1 kW night.) I would suggest writing to station management.
