South Georgia MD forfeits license, pleads guilty to drug charges

The U.S. attorney in Georgia’s middle district says a doctor from Fitzgerald has pleaded guilty to drug charges and agreed to give up his medical license.

Prosecutor G.F. “Pete” Peterman III says Dr. Edd Colbert Jones III agreed to write prescriptions for controlled substances including Oxycodone and Diazepam so a conspirator could sell the drugs illegally. Peterman says some prescriptions were in the conspirator’s name, and some under names of other people.

He said in a news release Tuesday that Jones never examined any of those people.

Sentencing in the case will be set in about 60 days following a pre-sentence investigation. Jones faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
