Waffle House waitress pulled gun on robbers who threatened to shoot everyone

A Waffle House waitress took matters into her own hands after three robbers entered the restaurant and demanded cash.

Heather Burkinshaw-Stanley followed three robbers out of the restaurant and fired a shot after they stole $200 from the Waffle House worked at in Newnan on U.S. 29, according to a police report.

The three men walked into the diner about 2:30 a.m. Thursday and ordered a meal, according to a police report.

Twenty minutes later, one of the men walked over to the counter and presented a note threatening to shoot every one inside if he didn’t get “all of the money,” according to the report. The waitress at the counter told police she didn’t see a gun and one was never shown.

The waitress saved everyone by giving the crooks the $200. She never confronted them with her "personal protection device".
Sounds more like she was just letting off some tension wishing she had the guts to go over to the BP station and confront them.

Although are stories about occasions where an innocent with a weapon saves lives or property, this is not one of them. The newspaper should be faulted for headlining the article as if it were otherwise.

4. Absolutely correct.... waitress should be charged with reckless endangerment

The moment the robbers fled the restaurant it was no longer a case of self defense. Firing a gun into the air (especially in a city) is just plain stupid. This story is just playing into the hands of gun nuts who think they'll be the next 'good guy with a gun' who can be a hero.

she could have shot patrons, other employees or herself. There is a reason they tell employees to hand over the damn money. She wasn't a perfect example of anything except NOT understanding company policy.

2. What was she trying to do? If she was aiming at them, it wasn't self defense

and no one deserves to be shot over a $200 robbery. Better to focus on getting the plate number.

If she was shooting into the air as the article states, that's dangerous.

Newspaper articles that normalize this behavior are irresponsible.
