🚨 DA Candidate Deborah Gonzalez Update:
Special Election Runoff for Athens/Oconee Western Circuit DA Special Election will be on Dec. 1
Link to tweet
🚨 BREAKING NEWS: 11/11/20
The Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections may not be able to change the date of the special election runoff for DA! I just got off the phone with an A-CC election official. The SoS press conference announcing the combination of the local & state runoffs with the US Senate runoff was a total surprise to them. This may be the case for the other special election runoffs in other races. Only the public service commission runoff is a regular election runoff.
🚨 11/11/20 I will update as information is available.
🚨 11/12/20 Update: Local & State Special Election runoffs will be on Dec. 1, 2020
State Public Service Commission runoff will be on Jan. 5, 2021
A reminder about the State & Local runoff election on December 1, 2020:
🍑 Hey yall! I know that every one is so excited about the dual US Senate runoffs, but we have a State & Local Special Election runoff on Tuesday December 1, 2020!
🍑 GOTV for these incredibly important Special Election runoffs, including the Western Circuit (Athens-Clarke County and Oconee County) District Attorney and the 5th Congressional District Special Election runoff, among others. Not every county and city will have a Dec. 1 runoff, so check with your local Board of Elections.
🍑 Remind your family, friends & neighbors to VOTE! 🗳
🍑 Please vote in the Georgia State & Local runoff election on Tuesday December 1, 2020!
🔵🗳🍑🇺🇸🍑🗳🔵. 🔵🗳🍑🇺🇸🍑🗳🔵
We can do this, yall! We can win the US Senate!
Register to vote! GOTV! Volunteer! Donate!
Make a plan to vote by absentee ballot, early voting or vote in person on Jan. 5, 2021!
We welcome the help of those of yall who live outside of Georgia!
We cant do it alone! Join us in our fight to restore our democracy and our nation!

(12,892 posts)Im getting involved with the DeKalb Co. Dem Party as a volunteer, will be sending out GOTV post cards with 350.org, and will be sending GOTV letters with Vote Forward.
As you may know, for the General Election, Vote Forward started with an ambitious plan to send 10 million handwritten letters to occasional voters in swing-state Dem-leaning zip codes. When all those were prepared weeks before the deadline, the organizers bumped up the goal to 15 million letters. We ended up sending more than 17 million letters. My measly 150 went to voters in Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia.
The enthusiasm continues to be off the charts the year, and Im glad to have a chance to be in the thick of it. This is some of the most important work of our lives.

(21,615 posts)I phone banked for Reverend Warnock. I also worked door to door GOTV for 2 local state House candidates. Im going to be working to GOTV for Deborah Gonzalez, our Local Democratic DA candidate, ahead of her December 1 runoff election.
Theres no rest for us Georgia Democrats! 🔵🗳🍑🇺🇸

(21,615 posts)Apparently, there was a live GA SoS press conference on TV this AM. This change to combine local & state runoffs with the US Senate runoffs was just announced.
As of 12:20pm today, neither the SoS website nor the A-CC BOE websites had been updated with the decision to combine both runoffs into one runoff on January 5, 2021.
🚨 I just got off the phone with the Athens-Clarke County BOE! The SoS press conference was a complete surprise to them. Because our DA election is a special election, they may not be able to change the Dec. 1, 2020 date.
I would assume the same problem exists for the other special local & state runoff elections.
I will update yall when I know more. Act as if youre going to be voting for state and local candidates on Dec. 1, 2020 until we have definitive legal decisions from the affected counties.

(2,884 posts)I want to encourage friends to support both but some are asking if one candidate needs more help than the other.
Any clues, CottonBear?
Thanks!

(21,615 posts)Warnock may have a slightly better chance of winning than Ossoff, but we need both of them in the Senate!
Consider donating to Omaha Steves DU ActBlue link, which divides the donation between Warnock, Ossoff and Stacey Abrams FairFight group. Or, donate directly to Fair Fight. Fair Fight is working to GOTV, register voters, including those teenagers who will turn 18 by January 5!
The most important thing is to get people registered and get them to vote by absentee ballot, early in person, or on Election Day.
Historically, Republicans win runoffs in Georgia. This is because there is a drop off in interest post-election, a lack of of voter information, runoff voting is scheduled during school/work holiday or summer vacation times, and lack of GOTV efforts.
This Senatorial runoff election is a whole new ballgame, however. When we vote, we win.

(2,884 posts)Maybe Stacey, if I had to pick just one, is a good place to spend the money.
I like the idea of splitting, too.
Let's do this, I wish DU would pin a post in GD- nothing matters more for readers right now, IMO.
I put in the request to ask the administrators, no response.
