Handel announces bid for U.S. Senate

http://www.walb.com/story/22279269/handel-announces-us-senate-bid

By Cade Fowler -

ATLANTA (AP) - Karen Handel, the former Susan G. Komen for the Cure executive at the center of last year's public clash with Planned Parenthood, says she'll be running for an open U.S. Senate seat in Georgia.

Handel's announcement Friday shakes up an already crowded contest among Republicans vying for the seat held by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, who is retiring next year.

Handel, a former secretary of state, narrowly lost the GOP primary for governor in 2010 and is expected to tap quickly into her statewide network of supporters.

U.S. Reps. Paul Broun of Athens, Phil Gingrey of Marietta and Jack Kingston of Savannah, have all said they will compete in the 2014 Republican primary.

Well, we're almost certainly doomed to have yet another loonie nutcase represent us in the Senate. I'm not too familiar with Jack Kingston, all the others I know about. I'm afraid I'd have to give Handel the edge right now based on name recognition, barring a miracle whichever publican wins their primary will have a cake-walk in the general election.
