Georgia mom forced to leave Panera over disabled daughter’s noisy orthopedic shoes

A Georgia woman said corporate officials apologized to her after an assistant manager asked her to leave a Panera Bread restaurant when another customer complained about her daughter’s squeaky orthopedic shoes.

“We weren’t welcome with the shoes,” said Catherine Duke. “It was very blatant.”

Her 4-year-old daughter, Emma, has a developmental disorder and is unable to walk correctly, so a doctor prescribed the special shoes.

Duke said she told the restaurant’s assistant manager that, but she repeated her request for the family to leave Jan. 4 because they were “bothering someone.”

The article said it was a brand new assistant manager who did this. It also said the mom was contacted by officials from the corporate office and they're going to do some sort of fundraising to help pay for the daughter's medical bills. Personally, I think the corporation should be more than able to make a contribution themselves, but at least it sounds like they're doing something decent.

There are 2 paneras near where I live. I'll take my computer and grab a bagel or maybe a sandwich and both are always fairly crowded, and there is lots of noise.

People ordering, staff running around, the coffee machines are always being refilled, people sitting alone talking loud on their cell phones. Usually some kids too.

I can't figure out how a little kid's shoes could ever make enough noise for some one to complain.

Clearly something happened. Its just odd.
