A Black man records his white neighbors asking why he's fishing on the private lake

Three times in one day, Anthony Gibson was asked by a white person what he was doing sitting by a pond in his neighborhood in Newnan, Georgia.

“Another white person came and bothered me while I’m fishing,” Gibson said in a July 11 TikTok post for his TikTok account @fishingbay2ga.

Gibson, who is Black and documents his experiences fishing for catfish, carp, crappies and other fish on the social platform, said he has started videotaping every time one of the white residents in his 200-home development, Springwater Plantation, confronts him, asking for his address and questioning whether he should be there. He told NBC News that he soon learned he wasn’t the only Black resident of the community to be confronted by white neighbors.

In the July 11 video, Gibson sat with two Black female friends when a white resident named Tanya Petty told him that the lake was for “residents only,” and that she would take down his license plate to report him to local authorities.

By the end of the day, Gibson said he and his friends were approached a total of four times that day by residents asking him if he lived in the community.

I am a boomer, white and male. While nothing serious, I would say I had maybe 10 interactions with police. Never once was I scared for my life. I never was asked to prove I lived in the subdivision while in the pool.

To be constantly harassed, I would lose it.

3. There is a seasonal creek in my blue collar subdivision

The rich folk in the gated community have to cross it to get to their micmansions. Several times swimming Hispanics have asked me if it was okay for them to be there ( it’s a public road and if and when a creek of any kind is navigable in Texas it cannot be restricted) i always say of course! Then they say well all “those ladies” that drove by told us to leave! I always tell them to tell “those ladies” that they are with me and are my guests and to point to my house in plain sight ( those ladies live 4 miles in back and the creek is none of their business) btw since this drought started most of “those old ladies” have passed on or moved away. Good riddance. ( they loathed liberal me anyway)

with their addresses in Newnan and everybody will know they belong and they will be left alone.
