Georgia's campaign donation tracking website isn't working, won't be fixed before November election
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - In an extremely consequential election year, Georgia is experiencing technical issues with the state-run campaign finance tracking website that is meant to provide transparency and information to voters and candidates.
Created by Civix Software group over the course of three years and to the tune of roughly $1.5 million dollars, the software — which is overseen by the State Board of Ethics — is supposed to be able to allow candidates to upload donation information and for voters to easily view it.
Some candidates said the site is glitchy, unreliable and takes hours to download datasets — if it even works.
“It just felt like already, there was a lack of transparency and the tool just wasn’t really working as maybe it should’ve been working,” said Ashwin Ramaswami, a Georgia State Senate candidate running as a Democrat for the District 48 seat. “For the public, it’s really important that they understand who is funding our elections and who is pulling those strings.”
