Cobb County proposing 1-cent sales tax to fund, expand public transit on November ballot

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Cobb County is proposing a sales tax increase of one cent to fund, expand, and enhance public transportation. The Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (MSPLOST) will appear on November’s general election ballot.

If voters pass the MSPLOST on Election Day, Cobb’s sales tax rate would increase from 6% to 7%.

“The purpose of the transit plan is to provide additional mobility options to the public,” Cobb Department of Transportation Director Drew Raessler said.

Raessler explained that dollars generated by the tax would be used to build new transit centers, create 100 miles of “bus-only” lanes to operate outside of normal traffic, and launch a micro-transit program, among other things.

Will be interesting to see how vote goes. Cobb has really come a long way since Newt Gingrich. Silent Type Sep 18 #1
