Yesterday, a conservative pollster announced that Nathan Deal trails Jason Carter by seven points -- Carter at 48 percent and Deal at 41 percent.
Seven recent polls, including our own, released on Friday, show the race as a dead heat.
Despite spending more than $4 million in campaign cash to try to improve his image, Gov. Deals job approval rating is at just 38 percent, as his overall support continues to crumble.
Plagued by multiple growing scandals, Gov. Deal shouldnt be surprised by these numbers. But as an incumbent, Republican governor in a reliably red state, he should be more than worried.
Poll after poll shows voters are fed up with Gov. Deals legacy of scandals and failures. Were all tired of a government that works great for him and his friends, but not so well for the rest of us.
And it doesnt look like the bad news for Gov. Deal will be getting better any time soon.
Over the holiday weekend, while Gov. Deals opponent, State Sen. Jason Carter, and his family hopped in a pickup truck to join the Dacula Memorial Day Parade, Gov. Deal fought back against a $1.1 million taxpayer-funded cover-up.
Heading into the holiday, Gov. Deal told reporters that only a mighty thin line connects his office to the recent $1.1 million ethics verdict that will be paid for by taxpayers.
Its good to hear the governor finally admit that theres a line at all. Until now, hes said there was absolutely no connection. But hes still not admitting how big of a problem hes created.
The line isnt as slender as the governor might like, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
In fact, sworn testimony shows that one of the governors top advisors arranged for a new ethics chief to replace the one who was forced out of office for investigating the governor.
And now, because of the governors office, were all on the hook for $1.1 million in damages.
Gov. Deal has not been honest about his personal business affairs or his campaign finances. Hes blocked access to quality health care and cut the HOPE Scholarship, turning it into a student debt program.......

(30,947 posts)Gov. Deal's refusal to expand Medicaid infuriates me. I am not worried for myself because I have Medicare, but I know of many people that really need Medicaid.

(12,333 posts)Nathan Deal colluded with our state GOPers to make it damned near impossible, even for Governor Carter, to expand Medicaid. HB-990, which was pushed by Deal, gives that authority to the legislature (which will remain in the hands of GOPers for quite some time due to our gerrymandered districts).
