A single-engine plane crashed into a stream just shy of a busy freeway on Friday, leaving its three occupants seriously injured after skidding to a halt under a freeway bridge.

Witnesses said the pilot of the plane was able to avoid traffic and buildings in the mostly industrial area, landing the plane in the stream bed. The plane missed the freeway overpass by less than 2 feet.
