The Hawaii Labor Relations Board this week will consider a case involving a public elementary school principal and vice principal who were fired in 2018 after they were accused of having sexual relations on campus during an extramarital affair.
Erin Kusumoto, the former vice principal of Pearl City Highlands Elementary School, filed a prohibited practice complaint against the Hawaii Government Employees Association last year after the union refused to take her case to arbitration to fight her firing.
She is also separately challenging the actions of state Superintendent of Schools Christina Kishimoto in the firing because Kusumoto contends she was terminated without proper cause, and was punished too severely.
Kishimoto wrote in Kusumotos termination letter that a 2018 investigation found that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that VP Kusumoto inappropriately engaged in conduct of a sexual nature and/or sexual relations with Principal Nakasato on the PCHES campus before, during and after work hours.

(41,351 posts)The Vice-Principal and Principle were having an afffair, admitted having sex on school property, and then the Principals wife sends a graphic email on the state email system telling everyone all about it.
Both got fired. Dont really know how the Union could have helped her.

(41,351 posts)Woman Principal/Male Teacher. And then a couple of years later a 3rd grade teacher had an affair and ran off with the dad of one of the kids in her class.

(31,433 posts)that did not go public. One of them involved a one-time encounter between two teachers I respected and liked. Neither one of them are here any more. One retired, and one moved on to another district. One was married, the other in a committed, long-term relationship.
I have mixed feelings. This makes teachers look bad and unprofessional. Heck, it is unprofessional! But teachers are human, too.
