Where to stay on Maui this Friday and Saturday night?

I'm on Maui this morning, flying over to Oahu today for a meeting tomorrow.

I'm returning Friday afternoon and staying on Maui through Sunday.

It's been years since I was here but if you have any advice on the best places to stay near some good snorkling that aren't $300/night type places, I'd be grateful.

I'm leaning toward Lahaina/Kaanapali or down Kihei/Wailea. I seem to remember seeing turtles along the south end of island.

Happy to buy you a drink, too, if Maui is your home.

TIA,

Awesome time of the year. Make sure you watch the coast to see the humpback whales. Moms & babies hang out close to shore. Snorkel off Olowalu with the turtles and listen to the whales singing.

Can you tell I LOVE Maui?

south of the Maui Prince Hotel past that lunch wagon that parks by the road. It's a little dirt road with a great shelling beach. It's before you get to Big & Little Makena Beaches. The last time we were there--2 years ago--we watched at least a dozen turtles surfing. They'd ride the waves in then go back out then come in again. We watched them for at least a couple of hours. Awesome. Don't bother snorkeling off Kaanapali--it blows.

Have fun! I'm so jealous.

As I recall the best stuff was south and I will look for that spot you mention.

Aloha Mr. escapee...

A couple of places for your consideration... keep in mind that since I live here, I don't really frequent the hotel or condo scene very often, although we did overnight at the Makena Beach Resort (the old Maui Prince Hotel) last year when my wife and I renewed our wedding vows on our 35th Anniversary. It's the last hotel on the Wailea coast and kinda pricey, but very nice and quiet.

stayed here about five years ago on a class reunion adventure. very nice and awesome connection to the ocean..

Southside - Kihei/Wailea

on the beach, they have a really good restaurant, and it's an easy drive to the Wailea resort area...

..if all else fails, there's the Maui Beach Hotel in Kahului... 20 minutes from the airport, on Kahului Harbor. cheap rates, decent food, but you'll have to drive to Lahaina (45 minutes) or Wailea (35 minutes).

I'd love to meet up with you for that drink, but I'm off to Hana on Friday for a weekend of work and some R&R.

I hope you enjoy your stay..
