North Idaho state Rep. Heather Scott, in a Facebook post on Sunday {August 13}, defended white nationalists in the wake of the events in Charlottesville, Va., a day earlier, posting a quote by a conservative writer that a white nationalist is no more than a Caucasian who (sic) for the Constitution and making America great again.
Scott posted this excerpt to her personal Facebook page at 11:19 a.m. Sunday, along with a link to the original post by Dave Hodges on thecommonsenseshow.com: The way the media has set this up, the mention of white nationalist, which is no more than a Caucasian who for the Constitution and making America great again, and confusing it with term, white supremacist which is extreme racism. Therefore, if one is guilty of being white, one is clearly racist. And if one is white AND loves America, they are a white supremacist capable of carrying out violent acts against nonwhites.
University of Idaho sociology professor Kristin Haltinner, whose research focuses on conservative social movements including militias and the tea party, said, Unfortunately Representative Scott is incorrect in her definition of white nationalism. A white nationalist is a person who believes in a falsely claimed superiority of white people over people of other races and supports the creation of a white homeland, or nation; hence the term nationalism.
White nationalism is an umbrella term that has historically included a number of white supremacist organizations including the Aryan Nations, the KKK, neo-Nazis and other groups, Haltinner said.

This is the same legislator that made the claim that women only received chairmanships of committees if they performed sexual favors.

(35,764 posts)in 1984, we steered clear of Idaho even back then. It's too bad because the country around Coeur d'alene is some of the most beautiful in the country. We ended up only going as far as Glacier Nation Park & Banff Provincial Park. There are a lot of nuts out west. While we were in Montana, 2 jackass "mountain men" kidnapped Kari Swenson, an Olympic athlete because junior & pa thought she's make a good wife for junior. Yikes. We were in the area being searched & it was awful. She ended up escaping, but she got shot & I think that ended her Olympic hopes.

(29,785 posts)and your link...I certainly remember reading about the "mountain men" kidnapping the Olympian...That was beyond weird.
I hope it's not really exemplary of the populace, but at this point in time, all bets are off.
