Gas prices drop across US, including Chicago

CHICAGO — Gasoline prices have fallen across the U.S. and in Chicago.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg says the U.S. average price of gasoline has dropped 27 cents over the past three weeks, to $2.44 a gallon.

According to GasBuddy.com, average retail gasoline prices in Chicago have fallen 13.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.73 a gallon.

Lundberg says the pump price fell even though crude oil prices gained strength, as gasoline supply outweighed demand.

A survey by auto club AAA put the national average gas price at $2.34 per gallon. AAA said the summer driving season has ended with the lowest national average gas prices for the Labor Day holiday in more than a decade.

Problem is how long will it last. Hopefully a long time so the savings can be used to help.

2. What i Thought Too

Low gas prices have a disproportionate positive impact on low income households. A necessity that now costs less is a big benefit.

Still, i'm seeing things in GD where folks are paying a buck seventy. Even though i live quite south of the city (60 miles or so), we're nowhere near that.
