Rahm says Trump is keeping his base on 'amphetamines highly charged'

WASHINGTON – The strategy of President Donald Trump to focus on his base “and keep them on amphetamines – highly charged,” may not be a winning formula “for success up and down the Republican ticket,” in 2018, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a CNN interview to be televised Sunday.

Emanuel, appearing on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” discussed the chaotic Trump White House operation and the challenges Trump presents to Republicans when he was in Washington on Tuesday for a speech and meetings.

Trump “actually changed the Republican base, and the Republicans in Congress aren’t up to speed with what his base is,” Emanuel said.

Trump and his team – who, Emanuel noted, came in with no White House experience “made some mistakes that have exacerbated already a troubling, fragile coalition and political position of a president.”

and "I want mine," which includes the very social programs they'd been taught to vote against. 2016 was a rejection of the party while managing to still remain fanatically aligned against Democratics. Rump had promised to protect those programs from their own party.

The Republican leadership serves ultrawealthy conservatives determined to continue the transfer of wealth and power to themselves and destroy all social programs. Rump's so far greatly enabling these goals, his cabinet stuffed with their agents.

“In 2018, Trump will provide the greatest fundraising and get-out-the-vote machine the party has ever had.” Okay. But Rump won't be controlling it.

One thing, most of 2016's Republican voters will still be aligned against the Democrats to an effectively fanatic degree and are completely unrepentant. Rump is not the worst they could have foisted on the nation. With the help of the archconservative machine driving the GOP, I'm very afraid he won't be.

We have to win.
