Statehouse Insider: It's come to this in the governor's race
Theres less than a month to go before the election so lets recap where things stand now.
The week began with a report by public radio state WBEZ in Chicago about Gov. BRUCE RAUNERs administrations efforts to keep the lid on information about the Legionnaires outbreak at the Quincy veterans home. Next was a leaked report from the Cook County Inspector General that Democrat J.B. PRITZKERs effort to lower the property taxes on a mansion he owns through toilet removal was a scheme to defraud taxpayers.
That report prompted Illinois Republican congressional delegation to demand the U.S. attorney investigate. Subsequently, Democratic Attorney General LISA MADIGAN announced a criminal investigation into the Rauner administrations efforts to keep the Quincy situation under wraps.
All of that was before Wednesdays debate where Rauner and Pritzker traded shots with each other over those developments. Each man then held a news conference Thursday to further bash away at each other.
