Freshman Democratic Rep. Lauren Underwood gets another GOP challenger

Republican state Sen. Sue Rezin of Morris on Tuesday became the latest contender for the GOP nomination to take on freshman Democratic U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood of Naperville next year.

Rezin announced she has filed a declaration of candidacy and other paperwork with the Federal Election Commission for a run in the sprawling suburban 14th Congressional District. She is among at least a half-dozen Republicans looking to take on the first-term Democrat in a district that had traditionally held strong Republican leanings.

Rezin’s announcement noted the establishment of a campaign office in Gurnee, in the far northeastern part of the district, which includes portions of McHenry, DuPage, DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and Will counties.

Rezin’s residence in Morris is outside the boundaries of the district, according to State Board of Elections data, though there is no requirement that a representative reside in the district they represent.
