University of Illinois campuses will require COVID-19 vaccine for students this fall

The University of Illinois System will require students on its three campuses to receive a COVID-19 vaccination if they plan to be on campus for the fall semester.

The announcement came in a letter from system president Timothy Killeen.

The University of Illinois became the first public university in the state to announce such a requirement.

Northwestern University, DePaul University and Loyola University all announced earlier in the spring that students would have to be vaccinated before the start of the fall semester.

They aren't requiring it at their school, even for staff. They're recommending it. At least as of June 3.

Then there's this from May 5:

Illinois State University’s student government has endorsed the idea of requiring students to be vaccinated for COVID-19 if they want to attend classes next fall.

With only one “no” vote, the Student Government Association recently endorsed the resolution in support of mandatory vaccination for those physically attending classes in the fall, said Grant Chassy, who wrote and sponsored the measure.

So, a month before the student government voted to require a mandate, but administration overruled.

The college where I went for undergrad is requiring it. (Mid-size private school in Chicago market). Same with my wife's alma mater.

I haven't found specifics for NIU, EIU, WIU, or GSU yet.
