CPD union head John Cantanzara* threatened repeatedly that police would walk en masse leaving the city unprotected if vaccine mandates were enforced. He gave the unvaxxed police instructions through the media to seek other employment such as driving Uber if they were dismissed. (The POS media even went to small town police departments in places like Wisconsin to have them say on camera that they wouldnt help if Chicago police were dismissed even though Chicago asked no other areas for help.)
Lightfoot and the administration have subsequently selectively dismissed individual violators randomly--making timing unpredictable and, most importantly, taking the fuel out of the unions fire to walk en masse. Cantanzaras recent response was to say that all the violators should be dismissed at once. The pronouncement just made him look powerless since the union cannot determine how management manages and it highlights the unions inability to direct the workforce.
So kudos to Lightfoot for turning the unions threats and bravado around into embarrassment.
* - The local media seems to shove a mic in this guys face every chance they get. He seems to get more press than the mayor. Why union people support Magats is baffling.
