Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois in a new interview portrayed himself as the only potential GOP candidate who could beat incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat, in the state's gubernatorial election next year.
"If I ran for governor, I think I'm the only candidate that could win, at least that's out there now," Kinzinger said on Crain's "A.D. Q&A" podcast.
At a time when many Republican candidates vie to win elections by tying themselves to former President Donald Trump and his brand of politics, Kinzinger emphasized that Illinois is not a "far right" state and that's not the type of campaign he'd run.
He underscored that winning back the suburbs would be crucial to any successful GOP gubernatorial campaign in Illinois, while contending that focusing on conservative "purity" on issues like abortion would be a losing strategy.

I've had this conversation with him.
He still believes in the "job creator" nonsense. I've had that conversation with him.
That & military issues.
At least he no longer lies about his time in the middle east!
He's not a moderate, he's just not crazy.

(706 posts)He had NO issue riding the "Tea Party" coat tails. When in reality, he is and was nothing but Manzullo lite. Yeah, he got married to quash the "is he gay" questions. IMHO, he's really not military. Served *just* enough time in a relatively safe position. IF he want so to do IL and the country good, he'll be out there counterpointing/bullshit calling against Esther Joyfully Lying King and other similarly lying in the puke primary/general election.

(69,889 posts)When he first ran against Deb Halvorson, even his wiki page described his "cool under fire".
When it became known his exploits were mostly made up, poof, no more mention on wiki.
Personally, he's a pleasant guy. His belief system, not so much.
