The truth: unconvicted individuals are being detained, without trial, for as long as a decade because they dont have money for cash bail. Some are even murdered awaiting trial.
Under the new law, prosecutors can detain individuals but not just because they dont have bail money.
The political firestorm is the product of those profiting off the detainment for bail system imho.

(18,756 posts)I've seen some infuriating anti-Pritzker ads on TV, about how he supposedly wants to let ALL the violent offenders out of jail and "bring Chicago violence to YOUR town!" (paraphrasing)
It's such a complete load of crap, and it infuriates me because I know there are people who will swallow it, hook, line, and sinker.
This election is getting ugly.

Pritzker is doing a great job for us. We need to keep him in office.

Worse tho was the actual ballot referendum language. It was really confusing even to me.
I hope we do better to guard the narrative that goes on the ballot in the future because that was awful.

(31,463 posts)We need to be more careful. And we need to get the info out to the voters. Do it by mail, over the TV and whatever else works. Precinct leaders can go door to door, too.
