Illinois legal nonprofit reminds voters of their rights as they head to polls

SPRINGFIELD (WGEM) - Election day is in less than a month. In Illinois, the polls are already open as early voting started Sept. 26. Voting, however, isn’t as simple as filling out a ballot. Everyone must follow a process when casting their ballot.

“This is one of the few times when we get to exercise our muscle as citizens is in our right to vote, and I encourage everyone to do it,” said Illinois Legal Aid Online Executive Director Teri Ross.

Illinois Legal Aid Online is a nonprofit that aims to make sure Illinoisans know their civil legal rights, which includes voting rights.

“People should know that there are multiple ways to vote and that they should pick whatever way is going to suit them best and be most convenient for them,” Ross said.
