Indiana
Related: About this forumIn case you missed it, the marriage amendment died yesterday.
Yes, it may be resurrected next year. But the civil unions language was just too much for the Senate, which passed on it. Since neither house could agree on language, which is what it takes for constitutional amendments to get on the ballot, this issue is moot.

Thankfully, for us, Indiana is pushing this nonsense at a time when the trend towards marriage equality is headed in the exact opposite direction and bans are being successfully challenged and overturned in even more regressive states, which bodes well for ultimately preventing a ban from winding up in our state constitution.

(14,449 posts)I am disappointed because I thought it would get the Democrats out to vote for a non-Presidential election and besides voting this ban out of oblivion, but also get some Democrats voted into Indiana.

(24,777 posts)Knowing that it could still wind up on the ballot next year should bring some people out, right? Better not to wait until it's within inches of being added the state constitution, right?
They wanted it on this year's ballot for those exact reasons, hoping that they could push it through with a traditionally low dem turnout. I'd like to think that we could turn out en mas to defeat a referendum and elect more democrats but I'm skeptical that it would actually work out that way.
I also have a general moral issue with anyone's rights being subjected to a popular vote.
Anyway, let's just be happy that it's gone for now!

(14,176 posts)This doesn't do the GOP any good either. For him to call out his constituency and Senate leadership the way he did, makes him look like an ass. Wprd is he is going to challenge David Long for Senate leader. Good luck with that.
