DES MOINES, Iowa
July 13, 2020
The number of women having abortions in Iowa climbed last year, a turnaround that critics blame on the states controversial decision to withdraw from a federally funded family planning program.
After decades of plummeting abortion numbers, the state last year recorded 3,566 abortions, which is 25% more than the previous year, according to preliminary data from Iowa Department of Public Health.
The Des Moines Register reported last years increase came after the number of Iowa abortions dropped 56% from 2008 to 2018.

(15,693 posts)The Texas publishers send out text books that don't have ANY useful information in them about birth control beyond "just say no" and "keep your legs crossed". The word CONDOM is not to be found anywhere.
Fortunately our high school had a comprehensive curriculum beyond what was in the text for health class. And you can be damned sure that I gave our two daughters a comprehensive conversation about that topic as well. I believe in giving your kids ownership of their sexuality.
Rant over.

About their defund planned parenthood crap ...
I asked them if they were aware that PP was the most accessible place for women .. and that Pap smears were so important... they just dont understand
Edited to add:
What they fail to understand is that they are heartless and ignorant

(50,747 posts)but it will fall on deaf ears. Not to mention that I don't have much influence out there.
Our right wing religious fundamentalist citizens are living in their own bubble of misinformation.

(15,805 posts)WTF! Didn't any of those geniuses consider the consequences of their legislation, no studies were done, no one thought it through? Did they just think that they could force women to stop having sex or make them into baby making machines?
