It is Girl's basketball tournament time in Iowa!

Something that proves my Iowaness is that when the Girls tourney comes around I will find a way to watch or listen to it.

Over 60+ years I have watched - from the days of the strange 6 player game to the multi-class 5 player game of today. One thing I will guarantee you - you won't see this anywhere else.

One time of year when I can walk away from the world.

If you ever went to a game in person it was BORING!

I lived in a large city and the girls game was only played in small towns, so I never got to see a live game until the very end of the 6 player game. Then I understood.

She wanted to play offense and defense.

4. I never saw it other than on TV. My small NE Iowa town didn't have girls basketball.

The rules were so silly. At any given time, six of the twelve players just stood around, unable to cross into the forecourt. Two dribbles max, and every team seemed to have a designated scorer like Denise Long or Fonda Dix, which meant that six girl basketball was effectively four girl basketball since two of the forwards did very little.

I much prefer the real game, which the young ladies have proved with a vengeance that they are not too delicate to play.
