David Johnson, 65, R-Ocheyedan, said he changed his voter registration from Republican to no party on Iowa's primary election day Tuesday, although he added his independent status could be temporary depending on how the 2016 campaign unfolds.
"I will not stand silent if the party of Lincoln and the end of slavery buckles under the racial bias of a bigot," Johnson said in a statement that he indicated was a reference to Trump.

(63,200 posts)But his is the #3 'conservative' district in Iowa. My bet is he is so popular up there he wouldn't need a party to run.
By 2018 Trump will be a bad memory and Johnson will be back as a pug.
You may remember his little splash in the news @ this time last year when he told a teacher that was complaining about Branstad's line item veto of school funding to "quit whining."

(18,470 posts)Every time I hear of some Republican getting their hands slapped by other Republicans for something they put on Facebook, Twitter, or said something that made the news I think it's not so much that they did that, it's that they said it out loud. These things are usually things that they think all the time.
