Joni Ernst in Harlan Ia this morning just wants to hide somewhere.

Ernst is offering her own amendments to the senators are who writing the GOP’s plan, but she’s not ready to publicly reveal those ideas yet.

Ernst held a town hall meeting in Harlan this morning and spoke with reporters afterwards. Other Republicans have criticized Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for suggesting it may be necessary to strike a bipartisan deal with Democrats since Republicans on their own haven’t agreed on a plan to repeal and replace the health care law. Ernst said if working with Democrats is what McConnell decides is necessary, she won’t criticize.

Ernst took a number of questions about health care from people at this morning’s town hall in Harlan. Some expressed concerns about losing their insurance because of a pre-existing condition. Others complained the GOP’s plan to get rid of minimal coverage requirements for insurance policies will dramatically escalate out-of-pocket expenses. Ernst says she’s not sure what will wind up in the final plan.

She had all the solutions during her 2014 campaign. Pistols and pig nuts. Stupid but got her elected.

She was all bravado when she was in the state legislature and was seen as a "rising star." especially when she was running for Senate and put out her castrated pigs commercial. The hard truth is that Joni Ernst is another sad example of The Peter Principle. She doesn't have the quick mind that it takes to serve on the national level. She is in over her head. She gets a lot of attention, but substituting charisma for brains can take you only so far.

“I do not want to take that away from you sir, so don’t put words in my mouth,” Ernst responded, before saying that his story was “compelling.”

Later, Gill told ThinkProgress that he “did not really enjoy being here, but my life depends on this.”

“I wanted to hear that my health insurance isn’t going to change,” he said. “I wanted to hear that essential health benefits aren’t going to change.” But he did not.

Ernst repeatedly tried to steer the conversation to the problems with Obamacare, but constituents held up red signs reading “disagree” and kept pushing the senator on her own proposal.

She said it was full of mostly pissed off people.
If Joni was hoping for a sympathetic crowd in Harlan, she didn't get it. Wait until she gets to Johnson county!

she nor Grassley will ever have a truly open meeting in Johnson county.

Many years back (10 or more) Grassley did have an open meeting in West Branch at 7 in the morning on a Wednesday. They chose a small room into which about 150 people standing on top of each other and probably about 100 more outside. All were pretty hostile. That was probably about as close as he or she will ever be again.

Guess they believe us pointy-headed libruls sleep til noon
