What’s your first memory you can recall from your childhood in Des Moines?

Oh, my gosh! I remember being in my first house, which was over by Jordan Creek Town Center. What is now the most developed commercial area of West Des Moines was nothing but farmland behind our house, and I remember riding the lawnmower through the fields with my dad, looking at cows. It’s just funny because I grew up in the farm country of Iowa, which is now developed into the biggest mall of the state.

What happened when the town said they were going to build this mall on the farmland?

The city ended up contacting my family, like anyone else who lived on our street, to say that all the property next to our house and behind it was bought by the city and they were going to be developing a six-lane street and then the mall right behind us. So we ended up moving because of it. It was just funny because it was exciting to know Des Moines was growing that much, but we also had to leave my childhood home.

Small town me drove from Polk City to Adel and then home a few weeks ago. I couldn't keep my mouth closed at the expansion so far north and west. Normal for me to drive I80 but Hwy 141 construction inspired a different route home from Polk City.

1. yet there are only a few more people in Iowa total

which means that the small towns are emptying and everyone is moving to the cities.

Had to look to see who Shawn Johnson was - I just don't follow stuff very well anymore. I just doesn't seem as important when we got a crazy man in the White House.

2. Exactly what I see. One son to Des Moines the other to Chicago

and same story repeated every graduating class.

Crazy man is sucking the life out of our nation.

3. There is a common

denominator with most Rural Communities and that being the Leadership of those Communities. And that being blindness to progress and failing to embrace progress. If you lived in a small town you know what I mean.. The Local Business People are so afraid of Competition yet so unwilling to change their Business Plans to increase their business.

Always seems there is jealousy of the Youth becoming more Educated than them. Suddenly when their Community Business base collapses,they build Political self serving Economic walls around their Community supported by a P.R.campaign blaming the Liberal Progressive forces for their demise,when it was their own ignorance and petty jealousy of change that they themselves created.

5. Been there and experienced that.

Tried the going back to make a difference. That lasted about three months,realized the small town Gossip Line was alive and well. Family Reputation,all be it not true,was the killer. Left and never went back and will never go back like many of my Classmates.

You can only tolerate the Church Lady know more than fifteen seconds,just do not need that crap.
