I was in a Younkers today - ugh, so depressing.

The store was pretty much a wreck. Merchandise piled up in heaps on tables, stuff only half way on hangers, and the sales associates dressed like they were going to a garage sale and looking like their dog just died.

It was so sad. Younkers was once a great store. The downtown Des Moines store with its "electric stairs" and tea room was iconic. It was an awful day when the beautiful building it once housed burned down.

I know that nothing stays the same, but the death of Younkers and its long last breath during liquidation is a pity.

you could see nothing good happening only being loaded with debt and then dumped for tax write offs.
