Only Kansas Senate Can Stop Extremism
by Steve Rose
The state Senate has been the bulwark against a tidal wave of radical right-wing legislation passed by the radical conservatives in the House of Representatives, with a governor willing to sign anything the House passes.
What is at stake is nothing less than the ability to moderate extremism.
There is a conspiracy yes, a vast right-wing conspiracy to take over the Senate with Republican conservatives in the upcoming Aug. 7 primary election. Whoever wins in August is likely to prevail in Novembers general election.
The three self-proclaimed vanguards of this effort are Americans for Prosperity, controlled by the right-wing Koch brothers in Wichita; the Kansas Chamber of Commerce, which is totally controlled by extremist conservatives; and Gov. Sam Brownback, who has publicly announced he will actively campaign for conservative state Senate candidates.

Scary to think what is at stake here, that only a few moderate senators stand between sanity and the demolition of the social compact by reactionary troglodytes.

(47,992 posts)1. Too bad Rose doesn't have the courage to say "... Kansas Chamber of Commerce ... controled by
religious extremist conservatives ... " as even apolitical types in the state will admit.

He's right every once in a blue moon. But he's still a GOP apologist.

but I gather he has little sympathy for the bat-shit crazies. He went off on them in the article at the link.
