Bond issue on ballot: Wichita voters to decide on $450M referendum

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: In a 6-1 decision, the Wichita Public Schools Board of Education approved the fate of a proposed $450 million bond issue to be decided by voters in the district on a special election ballot next February.

On Feb. 25, 2025, voters will decide on the bond referendum to fund Step 1 of the district’s facility master plan, approved by the school board last month. Monday night, Kathy Bond was the lone board member to oppose bringing a bond issue up for a ballot question.

Speaking in support of the bond, Wichita Public Schools BOE President Stan Reese called the issue now up to voters “a historical and generational investment.” He said there have been just three bond issues in the state’s largest school district in the last 50 years.

“Our kids deserve this investment,” Reeser said.
