Sam Brownback’s tax cuts now full-blown disaster for Kansans

BY YAEL T. ABOUHALKAH
The Kansas City Star

Even in the make-believe world of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and other tax-cut advocates who like to ignore reality, Friday’s news about plunging state revenues was an utter disaster.

It was a disaster for several million Kansans who depend on tax revenues to pay for public services such as schools and roads.

And it was a disaster for Brownback as he gets ready to run for re-election.

The state said it collected $217 million less in taxes than it expected.

That came on top of being $93 million short of estimates in April.

In short, the state is bringing in less money because of lower taxes. Seems pretty simple to figure out.

Their maths will indicate that the problem is taxes are still too high.

If your goal is to destroy a state government so your rich buds can plunder at will, and people become too numb/blind/stupid to realize that that's what you're doing, then it's working superbly!

If your goal is a government that genuinely works to serve people and meets their needs, then it's a disaster.......

I think I read in the KC Star a couple weeks ago Brownback did blame Obama for less tax revenue coming in. What absolute idiot.

You vote for it, you must live with...When people start voting for intelligent candidates that are more than water carriers for billionaires and oil companies, this won't happen as often..We have Kansas, Michigan, and New Jersey all in the same budget messes. Yep Republicans are like dogs chasing garbage trucks, they have no idea what to do with the truck or state once they catch it.

Gain control of state government, pass tax cuts. When inevitable deficit crisis hits, demand cuts in teachers, universities, state agencies that help the poor, and environmental agencies. If those cuts balance the budget, cut taxes, repeat cycle. After agencies and schools have been cut to the bone, then go after pensions. All the while feed as much money to your developer cronies as you can get away with. Keep people distracted with phony fetus-worship, religion in government, and anti-gay laws that will get struck down by the courts (or maybe not, nowadays).

They do this every time.
