Eaton announces plan to close Hutchinson plant by October; 100 jobs would be affected
Employees at Hutchinsons Eaton Hydraulics plant learned Wednesday afternoon that the plant will close by October, eliminating about 100 local jobs.
The closure comes just 10½ years after city, county and state leaders rallied with plant employees to keep the manufacturing plant at 3401 E. Fourth Ave. open though with the loss of a significant number of jobs at the time after the multinational corporation announced plans to move local production to Mexico.
With the current closure, production of components made in Hutchinson will also move to Queretaro, Mexico, said Kelly Jasko, director of communications for Eatons Industrial Sector. She said she didnt know what volume of production would be relocated.
The chamber will reach out to the company, said Kirk Johnson, interim CEO of the Hutchinson / Reno County Chamber of Commerce, to seek guidance whether the decision is final or if a potential strategy can be employed. Should the decision be final, well offer assistance and resources to the affected employees.
