Known him 35 years and did not support him politically but he was a fine speaker and debater.
The Paddock/High on Rose crowd is dwindling.

(159 posts)..............Many Kentuckians will miss Gatewood....he was a friend to all native sons and daughters...I knew him 30 yrs and it was always a treat to cross paths with him....he had the common touch of being able to walk with Kings or Paupers....I'll miss him and the energy that he brought to the public venue....RIP my old buddy, it was an honor to count you as a friend.....

(3,615 posts)In law school, I had a radio show at WRFL, UKs student-run radio station. Gatewood was a guest[1] on the show twice: in January of 2005 and in March of 2006. The audio from the 2006 interview is at the bottom of this post and the 2005 episode (which has really bad sound quality), is in a separate post.
In all of the remembrances and statements regarding Gatewood, one word keeps surfacing: colorful. Thats how the Kentucky Democratic Party described Gatewood in a tweet last week.
This pisses me off.

(159 posts)......I'll get to it shortly.....do you recall Bill Scott of RFL ?.....my wifes Barber Shop was eminant domained by UK about the time you were in Law school at UK.....I mentioned it one time in the studio (on-air) and low and behold the powers that be replaced some people at the station as well as altering the protocol of the "live" interview...."fascism", hillbilly style....The term "colorful" is a laughable description because of its use by people that live and speak in a world of "brown".....
