Debate over Kentucky's Amendment 2 heats up as 2024 election approaches
The debate over a constitutional amendment on Kentucky ballots is heating up as the 2024 election quickly approaches.
Amendment 2 would allow public tax dollars to go to private schools.
Opponents joined Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman for a news conference on Monday at Teamsters Local 89, where they didn't hold back their concerns about the controversial amendment.
"The General Assembly has been trying for years to take public tax dollars and put them into private pockets under the guise of what they call 'school choice,'" said Allen Schuler, a former teacher and member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.
Lt. Gov. Coleman believes changing Kentucky's constitution would harm the state's public school system.
"Bus drivers, cafeteria workers, classroom assistants, custodians and teachers would lose jobs," she said.
