Voters could change Covington's form of government

A mayor-council form of government could become the city's new system if voters support it on Election Day, which is Nov. 5.

This form of government would get rid of the city manager position and make the mayor responsible for carrying out the city's day-to-day business. This is also known as a strong mayor form of government.

While the mayor would take on more responsibility at city hall, the position would lose the power to vote during commission meetings, except in the case of a tie. (Mostly. There are exceptions to that exception.)

But the mayor would gain veto power.
