Gov. Matt Bevin being sued for using state money to pay his legal fees in state pension suits

Whether Gov. Matt Bevin ousting the state pension systems board of trustees’ chair was legal or not, State Treasurer Allison Ball filed a complaint in Franklin Circuit Court disputing the organization using state money to pay his legal fees.

Monday, Ball filed her own intervention complaint in the ongoing Kentucky Retirement Systems (KRS) saga between former Board of Trustees’ chair Tommy Elliott and Bevin.

Bevin ousted Elliott in April and in May had the Kentucky State Police attend the meeting with the order to arrest Elliott if he participated.

Bill Thielen, executive director for KRS, has stated KRS would pay $50,000 of the legal fees for both Elliott and Mary Helen Peter, a past and current member on Bevin’s current reorganization of the board.
