House to talk pensions, Medicaid
Democratic leaders are asking all 100 members of the Kentucky House of Representatives to come to Frankfort on Tuesday to talk about low return rates in the state's pension funds over the past year and Gov. Matt Bevin's request for a waiver so that it can rework the state's Medicaid program.
The meeting will occur on the same date as a large Democratic fundraising event that will help fund state legislative races. Members will be paid expenses and their per diem salary to attend the meeting.
Brian Wilkerson, a spokesman for the Democratic leadership, said the date was chosen simply because House leaders recently received a report on the pension funds and Bevin just recently released the Medicaid plan he is sending to the federal government for approval. He said it was not an attempt to get Democratic lawmakers to Frankfort for the fundraiser.
"These are two major issues, and we just thought members needed information to take home to their constituents," he said.
