Anthem may be the only insurance on government exchange in parts of Kentucky

Anthem may be the only insurance on the government exchange in Warren County in the upcoming open enrollment, which begins Nov. 1 and continues through Jan. 31.

Aetna, United HealthCare and WellCare will not offer state exchange plans in 2017. United HealthCare will offer small group plans outside the exchange and Aetna will offer plans off the exchange. They will not be eligible for federal tax subsidies.

Kentucky Youth Advocates Executive Director Terry Brooks said that for citizens who are seeking private insurance on the federal exchange who are trying to take advantage of this option there is availability, “but it also needs to have flexibility.”

“We’d better be glad Anthem is stepping up, but having … one provider is not ideal. What is wrong with the metrics of the proposal?” he asked. “If only one company is taking advantage of that plan there’s something wrong with the metrics of this plan. It could not be good for consumers.”
