Shreveport furloughs now mandatory toward filling $25 million revenue shortfall

The City of Shreveport has moved into mandatory mode and now requiring every city employee with the exception of fire and police to participate in at least one furlough day per pay period as a way to help offset current and projected revenue losses.

Shreveport CAO Henry Whitehorn said during Tuesday’s council meeting, “We’re facing about a $12.9 million gap that we’re trying fill.”

City administrators are trying to fill a $25 million revenue shortfall due to COVID-19.

Approximately $19.3 million in proposed personnel cuts, including pay cuts from department heads and Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins in an effort to fill the gap, was sent to City Council.
