Baton Rouge Metro Council seats decided in two district runoffs

Republicans retained majority control of the East Baton Rouge Metro Council on Saturday after voters reelected an incumbent and chose between two newcomers in runoff elections Saturday.

In District 1, Republican Brandon Noel — the current mayor pro tempore — was elected to a second term. In District 2, Democrat Anthony Kenney won a seat left by open by council member Chauna Banks, whose term limit ends this year.

Noel, whose northern district is home to Zachary, defeated Democrat challenger Eric Smith Sr. with 62% of the vote. Smith finished with 38%.

In Scotlandville's District 2 race between two Democrats, Kenney won the seat with 52% of the vote over Eugene Collins' 48%.
