Spring in Maine.

People from other parts of the country ask how spring is in Maine. I say nice the trees turn green, wild flowers bloom and such. I never mention mud season followed by black fly season. I feel it is some thing better experienced than explained.

1. Members of my family moved to Bath from Nashville, Tennessee this week

Maine is where we want to retire. I say this because of the dread hanging over me here in Texas. The dread of another summer coming to land on my face with a dull, hot sickening thud.

2. Think of our neighbors in New Hampshire.

Speaking of seasons, some New Hampshire folks consider the black fly their state bird!

It’s mud season here in Vermont. Great combination...still a foot and a half of snow and a driveway full of mud. Yesterday a steady trickle of water from the ice on the stonewall, a sign of hope. Hope you enjoy spring in your beautiful state.

3. I'll be up there the first of May..

I'm going to meet up with guys I grew up with. One friend lives in Portland and we are gonna have our yearly blast. Lobster, beer, Ham Radio convention in New Hampshire... can't wait.
I'd love to see whales. Those big anchovies just fascinate me...
Aside from the cold (I live in the south) and the cost of living I'd be there in a heart beat.

4. Don't forget fresh Maple Syrup

Maple sap runs when there are cold nights and warmer days.
Boil it off at 40:1 and you get something awesome. if I can get 4 quarts fresh I'm good for the year. Log Cabin can KMA.

5. Spent most of

my childhood in Maine, I hope to go visit again soon. Still have some relatives there and now have the time to consider such a trip. Springtime is kind of similar here only we are far from the shore.

ETA: It's outdoor marbles season! Nothing like obstacles like mud, small streams of running water and patches of old snow!

6. Maine is no better or worse.

I have lived in many states ocean to ocean and border to border. I believe every place has beauty and some misery to go with it. There is no perfect place, person or situation. One can only find what works best for them and accept a few imperfections.
