Why progressives can't stop pushing Maine Democrats

As the first session with Governor Janet Mills at the helm, and both houses of the state legislature under the direction of strong Democratic leaders, comes to a close, how well did the party wield its newly won power?

The short answer: It depends who you ask.

While the state passed many notable advancements, some of the more significant accomplishments were only possible because of the dedication of particular lawmakers and Mainers who refused to sit idly by and assume their mandate would not be diluted down to nothing by corporate interests.

Many of the biggest battles — over tax fairness, rethinking the criminalization of drug use, putting power into the hands of workers, and transitioning to new energy future — are ongoing and will only be won if progressive voters continue to demand change.
