'Donald Trump’s speech last night was a well choreographed attempt to present himself and his administration in a more positive light before the American people. But applause lines do not make policy. We need to go no further to see this than Trump's statement that he would “promote clean air and clean water” just hours after he signed an executive order to unravel the Clean Water Rule and just days after his new director of the Environmental Protection Agency told the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference that they were ‘justified' in wanting to see EPA totally eliminated. Last night’s State of the Union reinforced the dangerous common theme of Trump world that there is no difference between fake new and real news — say what you want, provide no specifics or funding plans, and try to create a virtual reality. Now it’s our job to insist on the facts and to hold this President, his team and his Republican allies accountable.'
