Michigan's cost of living, climate among reasons families moving to stateBy Brandon Hudson and Jack Nissen
Published February 29, 2024 6:01PM
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (FOX 2) - The way Paul Wolfert sees it, Michigan is "like two states in one."
There's plenty of space in the state, which is both a great reason for those already living here - as well as those that might be considering a move to the Great Lakes state.
"I speak to at least five families a week that are moving from out of state to Michigan," said Wolfert of Century 21 Row.
Wolfert works in metro Detroit as a realtor. He's seeing a shift toward more interest in starting a family and setting down roots in Michigan. Lots of available land to build a home isn't the only reason either.
"When were looking at the cost of living buyers. Theyre moving from the most expensive places, so New York, DC, California," he said. "Then you have climate-change buyers who are moving from Nevada, Texas, areas like that where theyre like this is dry and hot and Michigan is not."

The cruel MAGA politics that has gripped Tennessee is certainly one of the reasons. Michigan has a great governor, and the state seems to be moving in a good progressive direction.

I have friends all over the country and we all visit each other regularly. Friends from CA, VA, and Chicago end up paying for every tab when they visit me becuase they just can't believe how cheap bar and restaurant tabs are here. And housing costs, they still can't believe how much house I got for a fraction of what they paid.
And Dems are doing amazing things for our state, protecting rights, helping workers. Whitmer and company are kicking ass.
Weather has always been the big draw back... well, we basically didn't have a Winter this year.
