As someone who has worked in a few places that serve alcohol, the orders were to stop serving anyone who appeared intoxicated. We also had to make the call should that person manage to get into their vehicle and try to drive away.

(It helped that a satellite police station was about three blocks from this place. They could literally catch the drivers as they went past.)

...I have to wonder whether it was intentional. It's not like she lost control because of a slick road surface, or failure to negotiate a curve in the road. Did she pass out at the wheel? How could someone with any neural activity at all manage to do this?

A 66-year-old Michigan woman faces charges including two counts of second-degree murder in connection with a crash that killed an 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother at a birthday party on Saturday. Marshella Chidester has also been charged with two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and four counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injuries, the Detroit Free Press reports. A judge set her bond at $1.5 million on Tuesday. Prosecutor say Chidester was drunk when she crashed into the Swan Boat Club building in Berlin Township. The children's mother and her 11-year-old son survived the crash but are still hospitalized with serious injuries.

Woman who crashed car into birthday party charged with murder Marshella Chidester was allegedly driving under the influence when she drove into a building hosting a birthday party, authorities said. WXYZ

A woman is facing second-degree murder charges after she allegedly drove into a child's birthday party in Michigan, killing two children and injuring several others, officials said.

Marshella Chidester, 66, allegedly struck a building at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Newport Saturday afternoon, and her car came to rest about 25 feet inside the building, according to the sheriff and prosecutors.
